As cidades são, hoje, reflexo da ambição dos seus "construtores", em que o passado e o presente assumem a sua singularidade, e apontam para uma dialética do entendimento dos lugares. Assim, podemos afirmar que estas refletem um conjunto complexo de interações entre pessoas e território, organizando sistemas de espaços com história, identidade e alma.
Nas cidades o passado é uma das dimensões mais singulares e a conjugação com a contemporaneidade articula uma relação viva entre passado, presente e futuro.
Acreditamos numa interação criativa dos seus diferentes agentes e, nesse processo, este deve ser o resultado da inteligência coletiva.
A cidade obrigatoriamente tem que ser valorizada através de intervenções recorrendo à sua identidade, história e alma dos lugares. Para isso, a ação deve incidir sobre a materialidade da paisagem, sobretudo edificada. Este processo está relacionado com ordenamento e desenho urbano, espaço privilegiado de atuação dos arquitetos.
O tema (RE) USAR pretende abordar formas diferenciadas de intervir nessa cidade consolidada, mas não estática, em pequena ou grande escala, encontrar a boa medida entre passado e futuro, entre antigo e contemporâneo. O contraste entre esses diferentes tempos constitui e dá visibilidade à identidade da cidade, que deve ter a capacidade de experimentar e suportar a mudança.
O desenvolvimento das cidades dá-se a partir da sobreposição de diferentes conceitos, da justaposição de sucessivos pedaços de cidade. As intervenções pontuais possuem sempre a função explícita de sanar problemas especificamente do construído e urbano.
As diferentes formas de abordagem aos processos de intervenção, no pressuposto de interação entre o antigo e o contemporâneo, mostram de formas distintas a clara relação entre as diferentes práticas do campo disciplinar da arquitetura. Os projetos apresentados neste número cumprem os pressupostos acima referenciados. (...)

In today's world, cities are a reflection of there forefathers ambition, where past and present own there singularity and point out towards a dialectical understanding of places. We can so, claim that cities reflect a complex set of dynamics between people and territory, organizing space systems with history, identity and soul.
The past is one of the most singular dimensions in cities and its conjunction with contemporarily articulates a living relationship between past, present and future.
We believe in a creative interaction of its different agents and in that process, this must be the outcome of collective intelligence.
The city has to be enriched through interventions resorting to its identity, history and the soul of spaces. Thereunto, the action has to influence the materiality of the scenery, mainly the man built landscape. This process is related to planning and urban design, privileged space of the architects.
The theme (RE) using intends to approach diversified ways of intervention in the consolidated yet not static city, in a small or broader scale, finding a good measure between past and future, old and contemporary.
The contrast between those different times, constitutes the city identity that must have the ability to experiment and support change.
The development of cities starts in the overlap of different concepts, of the juxtaposition of successive urban pieces. Punctual interventions have always the explicit purpose of healing problems of what is built.
The various ways to approach interventions processes, in the context of relating the old and new, show us in a clear manner the relationship between different practices in the field of architecture.
